EV (Electric Vehicle) Service

Cardinal Plaza Shell is your local home for aftermarket EV auto care!

Electric vehicles work by using one or more electric motors to propel the vehicle, rather than an internal combustion engine. They are powered by a large battery pack that can be charged using an external power source, such as a charging station or a home charging unit.

Because electric vehicles have a different drivetrain and power source than traditional gasoline vehicles, they require specialized services and maintenance. Some of the common services and maintenance for electric vehicles include:

  1. Battery maintenance: Electric vehicle batteries require regular maintenance to ensure they are operating at peak efficiency and to prevent premature degradation.
  2. Charging system maintenance: Electric vehicles require a charging system that is properly installed and maintained to ensure safe and reliable charging.
  3. Electric motor maintenance: The electric motor in an electric vehicle requires maintenance and inspections to ensure it is operating properly and to prevent overheating or other issues.
  4. Electrical system inspections: Technicians will inspect the electrical system in an electric vehicle to ensure there are no wiring or connection issues that could cause problems.
  5. Brake maintenance and service: Electric vehicles use regenerative braking technology which uses the electric motor's power to assist in braking. Because of this the brake pads and rotors usually receive less wear and tear than an internal combustion engine vehicle. Moving brake parts such as caliper slides, brake hardware and other components will need maintenance to prevent unwanted brake problems.
  6. Fluid maintenance: While there is no motor oil to change in electric vehicles, there are still lubricated moving components such as gear boxes and transmissions. These fluids will break down over time causing a decrease in function and reliability. It's important to have these components serviced at regular intervals to prevent failure and prolong the useful life.
  7. Cooling system maintenance: Electric vehicles typically have robust cooling systems to prevent overheating of battery packs, electric motors and other components. It's important to have EV cooling systems monitored and serviced.
  8. Tire Replacement and Service: Possibly the most common repair of an Electric vehicle is the replacement of tires. EV tires tend to wear out much quicker than internal combustion engine vehicles due to the added weight that most EV's carry. Often times, EV tires will contain a sound deadening foam inside the tire to reduce road noise. It's important to have EV tires rotated at normal intervals, have the pressure checked and filled as needed and have the tread depth measured regularly. Cardinal Plaza Shell is your number one source for EV tires!
  9. Wheel alignment: Due to the increased wear on Electric vehicle tires, it's important to have the alignment checked regularly to ensure that the tires will last as long as possible!

To service electric vehicles, technicians require specialized training and equipment to work on the unique components of electric vehicles, including the battery pack, charging system, and electric motor. Many dealerships and independent repair shops now offer services specifically for electric vehicles to ensure they are properly maintained and repaired.
