The official charity of Cardinal Plaza Shell is the Fisher House. We donate 1 penny per gallon to them each May, culminating on Memorial Day. We also have a change collection at the registers where we will double all the money collected. The Fisher House is an A+ rated military charity- over 96% of each dollar donated goes straight to the Fisher houses! The Fisher House operates similar to a Ronald McDonald House. When recovering from injury or illness, a military member is able to recuperate in a home setting instead of a hospital. The families of the recovering military member also stay in the Fisher House. Just imagine what this means for the entire family. Please check them out and if you feel moved, please donate. www.fisherhouse.org.Next, we make the station available to local groups (athletic teams, high school clubs, boy & girl scouts, etc.) to hold car washes. These have happened every Saturday and Sunday since the early 1970's. This has become a Springfield tradition. The groups typically average about $900-1200 in a day, but some large groups like the crew teams and football teams can double that amount.
We also sponsor Little League & Youth Club. I feel connected to our local Little League. My dad started sponsoring teams when the league began in 1972 and I have continued the tradition. I played in the Little League myself and my kids have also played in the WSLL.
Operation Starfish is another charity we support. It is operated through Nativity Church in Burke. This charity rebuilds villages in Haiti and in 2011, completed its 7th village! Each year we donate 1 penny per gallon pumped for an entire month. This typically raises about $3,000. To find out more go to Starfishmission.org.
If you would like more information or to get involved with any of these charities, please give us a call!
